Virtualisation and backups that work when you need them

A backup is only worth something if it can be restored in time. I design and review virtualisation and backups so that a failure, ransomware or human error doesn't stop your business.

Signs you need it

  • You have backups, but nobody has tried restoring them.
  • You don't know how long it would take to get back to work if the server went down.
  • The servers are years old and the hardware is at its limit.
  • You pay for machines or licences you no longer use.

What I do

  • Design and review of Proxmox, VMware and Hyper-V environments.
  • Backups with Veeam, Proxmox Backup Server or Synology, depending on your size.
  • Backups kept out of ransomware's reach.
  • Documented restore tests, with the time they take.
  • A recovery plan: what comes back first and how quickly.
  • Server consolidation to spend less on hardware.

I don't provide user support or device maintenance: your provider does that.

Experience

Real projects from my career as a systems engineer.

  • High-availability Hyper-V platform for Hospital La Fe: more than 60 critical virtual machines on N+1 clusters.Cloud World Group · 2022–2023
  • Veeam backups and disaster recovery drills.Cloud World Group · 2022–2023
  • VMware consolidation that cut hardware costs by 30%.HBX Group · 2023–2025

How I work

The same method in every area: understand first, then decide and, finally, do.

  1. Review

I review what you have, without touching anything, and tell you what works and what doesn't.

  2. Plan

Priorities by risk and cost, in writing. A project with a fixed scope and price, or as part of the monthly engagement.

  3. Execution

I do it myself, or coordinate it with your provider, with planned changes.

  4. Follow-up

I check that everything keeps working and leave it documented.

Frequently asked questions

How often should backups be tested?

As often as we agree based on how critical each system is, and always after a major change. Every test is documented: what was restored and how long it took.

Proxmox, VMware or Hyper-V?

It depends on your size, your licences and who will maintain it. I work with all three and recommend the one that makes sense for you.

Is this useful if I already have cloud backups?

Yes. I check whether they cover everything important, whether they're protected against ransomware and whether they can be restored in the time you need.

How do I hire you and how much does it cost?

A project with a fixed scope and price, or as part of the monthly engagement. Before starting I send you a written proposal with the scope and a fixed price. The first call is free.
